In this guide, we’ll explore the best Apple Watches and Android watches with eSIM, how they work, the benefits they offer, and what to look for before buying.
Whether you’re a traveller, a runner, or just someone who wants fewer gadgets in their pockets, this is your complete roadmap to picking the right eSIM smartwatch.
What is eSIM on a smartwatch?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card built right into your watch. There’s no slot, no plastic, it’s activated by software.
With eSIM technology, your smartwatch becomes like a mobile device. That means it can make independent calls, send messages, use mobile data, and handle contactless payments, even if your phone is nowhere nearby.
It works seamlessly with most carriers. Once activated, your watch is always ready, helping you stay connected for runs, travel, or just stepping away from your phone.
Apple Watches & Android Watches with eSIM: What You Need to Know?
When it comes to smartwatches with eSIM, both Apple and Android options give you the freedom to stay connected without your phone. The core idea is the same, but the setup, features, and limitations can vary.
Apple Watch with eSIM
Apple calls its eSIM feature Apple Watch Cellular. It’s built into models like the Apple Watch Series 7, Series 8, Series 9, and Ultra. Once you install the eSIM profile (usually through the Watch app on your iPhone), your watch can make calls, send messages, stream music, and use maps directly over mobile networks.
- eSIM technology means no physical SIM cards to handle.
- Works best with carriers that support Apple Watch eSIM plans.
- Great for workouts, travel, or moments when you want to leave your iPhone behind.
One thing to note! Apple Watches require an iPhone for initial setup and ongoing pairing, even if the eSIM allows standalone use.
Android Watches with eSIM
On the Android side, brands like Samsung Galaxy Watch, Huawei Watch, and TicWatch have been leading with embedded SIMs. Models like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, 5, and 6 LTE editions offer full digital identity activation without a physical SIM card.
Once you activate the eSIM, you can:
- Make and receive calls directly on your watch.
- Use apps, navigation, and streaming without relying on your phone.
- Stay connected when running, cycling, or commuting light.
The big plus for Android users is flexibility. Many watches work across different Android phone brands, and some even pair with iPhones (with limited features).
Bottom line: Whether you’re on Apple Watch Cellular or a Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE, eSIM gives your smartwatch the same independence as your phone, just in a smaller, more convenient package.
Best Apple Watches with eSIM
Apple has made eSIM technology popular. Its smartwatches show how this technology is now widely used.
With an Apple Watch Cellular model, you get a fully independent device. One that’s not tied to your iPhone for calls, messages, or data access.
