How to get eSIM QR Code | Step-by-Step Process

Users are switching to eSIM technology due to its convenience and travel flexibility. However, travellers, new eSIM users, and those switching carriers don’t know how to get the eSIM QR code.

The QR code is a unique code that helps each eSIM start working. After purchasing the embedded SIM, the user can access the QR code from the provider's app or website or ask for it through email.

I’ll discuss the steps to find your eSIM QR code in this article.

What is an eSIM QR code?

An electronic SIM is a digital version of a physical SIM card that requires installation via a QR code. You can set up an eSIM manually or directly, but QR code scanning is the most convenient method. The code contains the SM-DP+ address that connects your device to the system. It allows users to use the purchased eSIM plans.

Once the eSIM is activated, users can switch carriers for a hassle-free connection. Activating the eSIM is relatively easy, and users don’t need to mess with the SIM slot.

What to consider before accessing the QR code to set up eSIM?

Confirm Your Device's Compatability.

Firstly, confirm your device's eSIM compatibility. If your device doesn’t support digital SIM technology, eSIM will not work on your phone. You can verify this directly from your device settings. Open the Settings app, move to About Phone > SIM Status or SIM Card, and if eSIM is listed here, your device supports it.

Device Carrier Lock

Before setting up eSIM, you should check the device carrier lock. You can verify it from your device settings.

• Go to your device Settings.
• Move to the General and then About section.
• Under the SIM Carrier section, if you see No SIM Restriction.
• Your device is carrier unlocked.

However, if the device carrier is locked, contact the network carrier for further details.

Keep Your IMEI Number Ready

The carrier needs your device’s IMEI number for eSIM activation. You must provide this number to register your device. You can access the number from your device settings.

• Go to your device Settings.
• Navigate to the About Phone.
• In the Status section, you will see the IMEI information.

You can find the IMEI number to dial the *#06# in the dialer app.
