Disney Plus approximately uses 1GB to 7GB of data in an hour, depending on the video quality. If you stream at Ultra HD for 2 hours, it will definitely consume more data than the standard version.
Disney+ can be the more data-hungry app if you are relying on a cellular data plan. Especially during trips, you can face high data bills or slow network speed. So what are the precautions you should consider to avoid excessive data usage?
In this article, I will explain how much data Disney+ uses. Moreover, how can you save the data to avoid the early data runout stress?
Does Disney Plus Use a Lot of Data?
Like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ uses a lot of data with high resolution. On average, streaming at SD quality approximately consumes 1GB of data in a 40-minute video.
The HD video uses approximately 1.5GB of data per 40 minutes. In contrast, the streaming at the Ultra HD (4K) consumes 2.5GB per 40 minutes. Similarly, if you are spending most of your time on Disney Plus, it will consume more data.
What Affects Disney Plus Data Usage?
Multiple factors contribute to the Disney Plus data usage. These include.
- Video streaming quality.
- Network connection, whether you are using WiFi or mobile data.
- Video length.
- Mobile phone settings.
The app has adaptive streaming technology. It adjusts your video quality according to the data strength. If your data connection is smooth, it streams at HD or 4K. In contrast, if the signal drops, the resolution will be lower.

Mobile Data vs Wi-Fi: The Real Cost of Streaming
Streaming on mobile data, even at the moderate defination, can lead to your plan expiry. Compared to the cellular data plan, streaming over WiFi is unlimited and costs less.
Using the data plan during travel leads to data roaming due to the international rates. You can avoid your plan expiry or the extra charges while streaming on WiFi, or download the content to watch in offline mode.

Switch to an eSIM technology
eSIM technology is the digital version of the local SIM cards, ideal for travellers. It is a premium option to stay connected with affordable data plans. You can enjoy the seamless connection without any data roaming charges. You can buy the eSIM online for travel.
Note: If you are new to eSIM, you might struggle to find the best eSIM. I recommend Phonico as a reliable carrier that offers eSIM data plans for the USA. With an embedded SIM, you can enjoy the unlimited talk and text services without additional cost.
Like other travel technologies, eSIM is also essential to let you stay connected 24/7 without any network issues.
